A Closer Look At Nerf Toys

Two generations of American youngsters have now grown up linking sleepovers with Nerf balls, and two generations of North american parents have gladly forgotten the way to replace window glass. Nerf products have shown some remarkable versatility since the first Nerf ball appeared in the market in 1969, but the primary advantage of these products is the same; you can throw Nerf balls around in the house and still stay out of trouble.

The original Nerf ball was marketed by Parker Brothers. A games inventor presented that business with a volleyball game set which was safe to play with inside, and Parker Brothers accepted the offer then removed everything and saved the foam ball. In 1970 the Nerf ball was presented as “the world’s first official indoor ball”, and customers reacted by acquiring four million Nerf balls by the end of the year.

That original 4 inch ball was followed by a larger variant known as a “Super Nerf Ball” after which came the now-common “Nerfoop” basketball game which may now be identified on playroom doors and above office cubicles throughout the country. The Nerf football joined the lineup in 1972, and rapidly turned into the most famous Nerf ball.

Hasbro presently controlls the Nerf company, and even while the Nerf footballs remain among the strongest selling products for Hasbro, they presently produce Nerf Blasters, that happen to be toy guns that shoot ammo made using the Nerf foam in spherical or dart form. Many of those darts have Velcro tips, others have suction cups, determined by the designated target.

Nerf also has video game gadgets for several of the hottest game platforms, including the Nintendo Wii. Hasbro has even produced their original Nerf video game labeled Nerf-N-Strike, which is seemingly a first person shooter game with slightly less fatal results than usual.

If you are curious about buying a few Nerf products, Target or Amazon.com are pretty good places to start. A Nerf Mini Sport Pack may be purchased for around $14, which includes a tiny football, soccer ball and basketball. In case you prefer your Nerf projectiles with slightly more impact, the Nerf-N-Strike Basic Blaster set features 3 blasters, 9 micro darts, 1 Mega Missile and an owner’s manual for non-ballistic experts. The Nerf-N-Strike is a Toys R Us exclusive which means it could be obtained in Toys R Us stores or through the website for about $40.

They started out two generations ago with an orange foam ball then proceded to advanced to a multiple shooter dart launching system that could become the focus of a START treaty. Nerf didn’t exactly reinvent the manner in which we use our toys, but they have certainly made it less difficult to find a place to play.
